The 120, 1,200, 12,000 dm3 Fermenters Used For Toyocamycin Production For The National Cancer Institute

Fermenters Used For Toyocamycin Production For the National Cancer Institute

In this view are five fermenters, the two farthest back are 120 dm3 in size, the next two in the center are of the 1,200 dm3 size, and the largest in the front right corner is 12,000 dm3 in size. They are all geometrically similar to each other in dimensions. They can be used in studies of scale-up, new media formulations, different run parameters, etc. They have temperature, RPM, sparge air, pH, and dissolved oxygen control. They are each mounted on load cells for monitoring weight. The signal output from the sensors and controllers are interfaced with a supervisory computer for data storage, analysis, and graphing (86, 136, 226, 230, 225).

Fermenter Control Panels

Fermenter Control Panels

These are four control panels for production fermenters at the Fermentation Program at Frederick, MD. They have temperature, RPM, sparge air, pH, and dissolved oxygen control. Each fermenter is mounted on load cells to monitor weight. These control panels house the analog controllers for the above listed parameters. The values are displayed by light emitting diodes (LEDs) as well as on the recorders. The signal output from the sensors and controllers are interfaced with a supervisory computer for data storage, analysis, and graphing (86, 136, 226, 230, 255).
